In honor of Earth Day and global conservation efforts, we're celebrating the top botanical gardens in the U.S. This spring, USA Today revealed its list of the top 10 gardens for 2025, highlighting those that preserve and promote plant diversity. #10 Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens

Rounding out the top ten is New England’s largest botanical garden, located in Boothbay, Maine, along the picturesque coast. Spanning 325 acres of natural beauty and designed landscapes, the garden features a Native Butterfly House, a Children’s Garden inspired by children’s books by Maine authors, and the Kaleidoscope Garden, where plant displays change in an eye-catching array of colors throughout the seasons.

#9 Botanica, The Wichita Gardens

This community-focused garden showcases breathtaking landscapes with over 4,000 plant species, both native and new to the region. Set amidst tranquil ponds and manicured walkways, the garden has themed areas like the Butterfly Garden, Shakespeare Garden and a Sensory Garden, where plants engage the senses through their colors, textures and fragrances. 

#8 Sarah P. Duke Gardens

Located on the campus of Duke University in Durham, NC, this fabulous set of gardens feature five miles of peaceful walking trails through landscaped flower fields and lush greenery. Key highlights include the seasonal blooms of summer and the arboretum, which showcases beautiful and exotic plants from Asia. Best of all, admission is free, thanks to the generosity of members and donors.

#7 Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens

An official historic landmark in Pittsburgh, this botanical garden was established in 1893 and is home to one of the oldest flower shows in the world. It features a 14-room glasshouse and 23 gardens accented with historic artwork and modern glass work throughout. Explore vibrant gardens like the Orchid Room, Tropical Fruit and Spice Room at this display of horticulture and art.

#6 Marie Selby Botanical Gardens

Ideally situated along Sarasota Bay, this Florida gem specializes in epiphytes such as orchids, bromeliads, and ferns. It is home to one of the largest and most diverse orchid collections in the world and is globally recognized for its research and conservation efforts. With beautifully manicured gardens and sparkling bay views, it’s a delightful place to visit for a peaceful day in nature.

#5 Lauritzen Garden

Located in Omaha, Nebraska, the 100-acre Lauritzen Gardens offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle with more than 20 themed gardens. Stroll through the beloved Arboretum and explore family favorites like the Oberman Bird Sanctuary, Model Railroad Garden and the Japanese Garden, complete with a breathtaking replica of Mount Fuji. 

#4 Tucson Botanical Gardens

Small but mighty, the Tucson Botanical Gardens spans just five acres but is home to 20 distinct urban gardens, each showcasing the unique plant life of the Sonoran Desert. Highlights include the Barrio Garden, the Zen Garden, the Herb Garden, Cactus and Succulent Garden and the interactive Children’s Discovery Garden, designed for young explorers.

#3 Fairchild Tropical Botanical Garden

Tucked away in Coral Gables, Florida, this tropical garden paradise ranks #3 for its incredible collection of tropical plants. Must-see exhibits include the Tropical Fruit Exhibit, the Palm Glade, and the stunning Wings of the Tropics, where hundreds of exotic butterflies fly freely. It’s truly an immersive and colorful experience.

#2 Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden

Woven throughout the Cincinnati Zoo, the gardens showcase a diverse range of plant life including the colorful Floral Garden, the prehistoric Dinosaur Garden and the Endangered Species Garden, dedicated to plant propagation and preservation. In spring, over 100,000 tulips transform the grounds into one of the country’s most spectacular floral displays.
