Once a popular outpost for prospectors searching for gold in the mid-1800s, Breckenridge is now a popular Colorado ski vacation destination with much to offer for visitors and residents of varying ages and interests. Breckenridge Ski Resort includes five mountain peaks with 2,908 acres of terrain for skiers and snowboarders of every ski level. The resort is situated among some of the tallest mountains in the Rockies and has the highest operating chairlift in North America. Breckenridge also has two nordic centers, Gold Run Nordic Center and Breckenridge Nordic Center, with more than 30 miles of cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails. Sledding, dog sledding and snowmobiling are also popular winter activities. 

When the snow melts, the fun continues in Breckenridge. Active residents and visitors spend warm and sunny summer and fall days mountain biking, fly fishing, kayaking on Lake Dillon or golfing at three different Jack Nicklaus signature golf courses. Want to really get the adrenaline pumping? Book a whitewater rafting trip down one of the area’s four rivers, experience the kayak park on the Blue River or take in the mountain views from a hot air balloon.
