Nestled high in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains, Vail is home to the Vail Ski Resort, which has the distinction of being the largest ski mountain in Colorado. When temperatures heat up, a world of other activities become available, like outdoor concerts at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater, golf at the Vail Golf Club, and marveling at the plants and flowers at the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens, the world’s highest-altitude botanical garden.

If you’ve got kids in tow (or if you’re simply young at heart), you’ll want to spend a day at Epic Discovery, a mountain playground that features ziplines, a climbing wall, an aerial adventure course and the Forest Flyer alpine coaster, which sweeps you 3,400 feet down the mountain. Buckle up!
