Cannon Beach at a glance

The small Oregon Coast town of Cannon Beach is big on charm. A walkable downtown village offers much to discover, from homemade saltwater taffy in a rainbow of colors to glassblowing demonstrations to a summer farmers market that’s heavy on freshly caught seafood. Indulge in local flavors at fish and chips cafes, seafood markets, coffee shops and breweries.

Cannon Beach’s most recognizable landmark is Haystack Rock, which rises 235 feet above the shoreline. At high tide, you must admire it from afar, but when the tide recedes, you can walk right up to it and explore the colorful creatures that inhabit the tidepools. Be sure to look up every once in a while — Haystack Rock is home to several bird species, including tufted puffins.

One of Oregon’s most beautiful state parks is just up the road from Cannon Beach. Ecola State Park offers stunning blufftop views, a network of hiking trails and access to pristine beaches.
