Located in the White River National Forest and surrounded by the picturesque Elk Mountains, the high-elevation Colorado mountain town of Aspen is a four-season paradise for recreation enthusiasts and nature lovers. Aspen is perhaps best known for its world-class skiing at four different resorts: Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk and Snowmass. When the weather warms, even more recreation opportunities are available, including hiking, watersports, horseback riding, biking and fishing.

This town of 7,200 is a popular destination during the summer months as well, with comfortably warm daytime temperatures in the 70s and 80s, and nighttime temperatures in the 60s. The centerpiece of summer in Aspen is the Aspen Ideas Festival, a week-long event that features seminars and speeches from thought leaders in politics, economics, science, technology, the arts and more.

Finally, Aspen is a great destination in the fall, when the hillsides are covered in vivid yellows, golds, oranges and reds. “Leaf peepers” from all over flock to the Aspen area for picture-perfect fall foliage, which typically peaks in late September. As the most photographed peaks in Colorado, the Maroon Bells are a great place to snap some great photos of the changing colors. These two 14,000-foot mountains have a reflective lake at their base and plenty of aspen trees surrounding them. Another popular place to see the colors is to drive to the top of Independence Pass on Highway 82. Along the way, there are plenty of places to stop and enjoy the scenery.
