Located in Northern California, the area commonly called Napa often refers to Napa Valley as a whole, a picturesque valley located 50 miles northeast of San Francisco. Including the towns of Calistoga, St. Helena, Yountville, Napa and American Canyon, Napa Valley is home to almost 500 wineries and is known as one of the world’s premier wine regions. Of course, with all that wine comes world-class dining, including Michelin-starred restaurants like Thomas Keller’s French Laundry, with its own culinary garden, and Claud Rouas’ Auberge du Soleil, set within a gorgeous 33-acre olive grove.

In addition to endless culinary delights, Napa Valley (and neighboring Sonoma County) offer plenty of outdoor pursuits, like championship golf, biking along the Napa Valley Vine Trail and hiking to the top of Mount Saint Helena, which offers 360-degree views of the countryside.

For those looking for low-key activities, Napa Valley’s spa scene can’t be beat. The north end of the valley near Calistoga has geothermal hot springs and soil with high volcanic ash content, which for spa-goers means relaxing mud and mineral baths.

Finally, the town of Napa has a thriving arts community, including a large rotating exhibition of public art and a wonderful array of theater and music performances. Just a short drive from downtown is the 217-acre di Rosa Center for Contemporary Art offering a permanent collection of work by Northern California artists, contemporary exhibits and education programs.
